Decades of brave waterwomen have broken down barriers in the industry and have shaped women’s surfing into what it is today. From big wave riders to short-boarders to long-boarders, women’s surfing is attributed to the great athletes and famous female surfers of the past and of current times.
In 2019, the World Surfing League or WSL announced that it was going to offer the same prize money to both male and female surfers who participated in the tour, which made the WSL organization and surfing the first sport in the U.S. that treats athletes of different genders as equal.
